Teeth Whitening:

Teeth whitening procedures, commonly known as “bleaching” is a painless, affordable, and convenient solution to increase the brightness of your teeth! Because the Food and Drug Administration monitors the strength of all whitening solutions, only licensed dentists can offer whitening services that are effective in penetrating the tooth surface for a long lasting whitening experience. Over the counter solutions are much weaker whitening solutions and are available at most retailers. Those are beneficial for short term, temporary results only. Many “whitening clinics” have begun to appear and are not licensed to offer dental grade whitening solutions but like over the counter solutions provide a temporary result.

We offer from the mildest to the highest possible concentration of whitening products which are stored in a climate controlled environment to ensure maximum results and longevity. Our whitening products can drastically improve tooth color due to aging, staining, medication discolorations, as well as naturally occurring dull or dark teeth.

Cosmetic Bonding:

Cosmetic bonding, also referred to as dental bonding, can solve a variety of appearance problems. In many circumstances cosmetic bonding can restore stained, chipped, and decayed teeth as well as teeth with wide spaces or gaps.

Cosmetic bonding involves a tooth colored resin material that is easily applied to the teeth. We apply this resin directly to the tooth surface, cure it with an ultraviolent light, and shape it for a natural appearance. Cosmetic bonding is not only extremely strong but also cosmetically appealing and can usually be performed in a single visit.

Porcelain Veneers:

Porcelain veneers, also referred to as dental veneers, can be used to repair front and back teeth that are crowded, have permanent stains, broken edges, decay, or naturally odd shaped teeth. Veneers are a long term cosmetic solution for teeth in cases where cosmetic bonding is not the desired procedure for optimal cosmetic results.

Our porcelain veneers have many advantages over cosmetic bonding in that they are designed to mimic perfectly shaped enamel with choices of numerous premium colors. Our patients are assured we only use the highest quality laboratory with highly experienced dental artisans to ensure beautiful results lasting many years.

Dental veneers are thin yet highly durable and are custom-fitted to your existing teeth. This is a simple, comfortable procedure that can be performed in just two visits to our cosmetic dentistry office. A completely natural look is achieved and daylight reflects off of them like natural shiny enamel.

Cosmetic Restorative Fillings:

In the “old” days silver/mercury fillings were the material of choice when filling a cavity or replacing a broken portion of the tooth. A great deal of research has been conducted in dentistry to find a strong, durable filling material that is safe and restores teeth to the original appearance. This material is mercury free and contains fibers that strengthen the filling and tooth. The fillings we use are far superior to the outdated silver/mercury fillings of the past and are chemically bonded to the teeth which prevents leakage and excessive wear.

One tremendous advantage of these fillings is they look just like the tooth, are free of toxins, and do not produce an environmentally dangerous byproduct. Our patients are thrilled with the beautiful, strong fillings we offer.

Porcelain Crowns:

Crowns are recommended for numerous reasons including broken teeth, cracks and fractures within the enamel, and to strengthen a tooth after root canal therapy. The common name for a crown is “cap”. Crowns can be fabricated from gold, full porcelain, or a combination of porcelain applied to a metal base. Patient preference is normally the reason for the different crown materials but bite considerations must be determined in order to chose the best type of crown. Crowns restore the tooth's natural size and shape while improving your tooth's appearance and function. Crowns look and feel perfectly natural, are shaped like the original tooth, and last for many years.

Porcelain crowns are the best choice when wanting to achieve a “perfect” smile. They appear natural and reflect daylight similar to natural enamel. Patients can chose the color of these crowns and are thrilled with their bright, natural smile.

Porcelain Bridges:

A bridge replaces teeth that are lost due to decay, trauma, or breakage. It is fabricated out of the same material as a crown and is permanently cemented in place. Bridges and crowns are similar in that they look like natural teeth, the only difference being bridges restore function in the area of missing teeth.

When a tooth is missing and not replaced, over time the surrounding teeth drift out of position which may cause jaw joint pain (TMJ), periodontal(gum and bone) infections, and loss of proper biting function. Bridges restore the natural bite and prevent further bone destruction. Since bridges are shaped like natural teeth, missing teeth are not noticed and proper chewing can continue.

Bridges are maintained in the same manner as your natural teeth, by regular flossing, brushing, and visiting your hygienist for regular dental cleanings.

Implant Supported Crowns and Bridges:

A dental implant is a titanium “root” that is surgically placed into the jaw bone and duplicates the function of the supporting structure of the teeth. They are used to restore your mouth in the case of single or multiple missing teeth.

After the implant is placed and healing has occurred, a crown, bridge, or denture is placed on top of the implant to restore the teeth to their original condition.

Dr. Wilkey enjoys partnering with area oral surgeons and periodontists to create a work of art in restoring your mouth to the original condition with implant dentistry.

Gum Contouring and Reshaping Procedures:

Gum contouring is a painless procedure that enables a patient to achieve a natural gum line without invasive surgery. Laser technology enhances the curvature around the teeth, offering a natural gum line for patients experiencing overgrowth of gum tissue. Overgrowth occurs for a various number of reasons and many times is permanently reversible. This same technology is used to correct naturally occurring gum abnormalities.

If your teeth look too small or too short because of the disproportionate size of your teeth to the gums, you may consider laser gum contouring.

Healthy and normal sized gum tissue compliments and frames your teeth. When your gums are well contoured, your teeth and smile look healthier. We offer complimentary gum analysis appointments to evaluate your gum proportions.

Cosmetic dentures:

When all of the teeth are missing, decayed, or broken beyond repair, dentures are a good choice for replacing teeth. In years past, some dentures did not appear natural and were not the best option for someone wanting a beautiful smile. Advancements in recent technology have greatly improved the quality, color, comfort, and style of modern day dentures.

We offer exceptionally natural, esthetic and individualized teeth for the best in cosmetics and function. Our design process includes using smile guides and along with your input we create beautiful results by considering your gender, ethnicity, and physical appearance. Your smile with be a work of art and your dentures will be handcrafted by our experienced technicians.

Options are available for current denture wearers to ensure stability with new dentures. Implant dentistry allows patients who have lost bone support under old and ill fitting dentures the option for a secure bite. Whether this is your first set of dentures or your last, comfort and esthetics are very important to us when helping you choose your new smile.

Smile Analysis:

Your smile is a fundamental element of yourself and should reflect your personality and appear perfectly natural. Our goal is to enhance your smile in simple to achieve and affordable methods.

To perform an at home smile analysis:

Face directly into the mirror, smile normally, and ask yourself the following questions:

• Are any of my teeth crowded or overlap each other?
• Do my teeth have spaces between them?
• Are my teeth brown, yellow, or have an uneven color?
• Do my front teeth have old yellow or brown discolored fillings?
• Do my teeth look worn, chipped, or sharp?
• Am I missing any teeth?
• Do my back teeth look gray or black due to silver/mercury fillings?
• Do I show too much tooth or gum when I smile?
• Are my gums red and bleed when I floss?
• Are my teeth the color of the whites of my eyes?
• Do I feel good about myself when I smile?
• Do I close my lips in photos or cover my mouth when speaking?

If you answered yes to any of these questions you may be interested in a complimentary cosmetic examination. We can evaluate your smile, address your concerns, and give you several options to improve your smile.

Digital Dental Imaging Services:

Dr. Wilkey is the first dentist in the Columbus area to utilize digital dental photographic imaging technology that provides you with true to life simulations of your face and teeth as they would appear if you had veneers, porcelain crowns, and/ or teeth straightening procedures. With cosmetic digital dental imaging software, each patient can view into the future and discover the impact a new smile will have on their appearance.

Photographs from repeatable angles can provide a comparison from which we can measure and evaluate changes in dental health: wear, tooth movement, recession and general deterioration. In cosmetic dentistry the diagnostic power is fascinating.

Take advantage of this new technology and look into the future at your “perfect” smile. There is no cost and no commitment involved.

Cosmetic wax-ups:

A cosmetic wax up is a three dimensional prototype and architectural model made from detailed impressions of your teeth. It is used as a guide prior to treatment to properly plan and insure the desired cosmetic results.

Although photographs and digital dental imaging create a good vision into the future to view your perfect smile, the best way to visualize your dynamic new image is with a diagnostic cosmetic wax up. It is simple, pain free, and inexpensive. All full mouth restorative cases benefit from this premium diagnostic technique.
